Imbally Coal Labs was established in 2016 with a clear purpose: to give South Africa's coal mining industry access to accurate, independent, and timely coal testing and analysis services. Founded by Mbali Mokwena — a BSc graduate of Wits University and MBA holder from UNISA — Imbally is one of the country's few women-owned coal testing laboratories.

Based in Ermelo, Mpumalanga, we serve coal miners, traders, and energy producers across the country. Our team brings over a decade of hands-on coal analysis experience to every sample, supported by modern technology and a robust Quality Management System that ensures consistent, audit-ready results.

Since opening, we have created over 30 jobs and continue to invest in the development of young professionals in the industry. Our work is built on three commitments: accuracy, reliability, and fast turnaround — because when coal quality data is wrong or late, it costs everyone.
